ABOUT THE BUILDING
It's quite a landmark building, identified in many books on Glasgow. The building Camphill Gate is a B listed, 5 storey tenement, comprising of 24 flats and 14 businesses (including the Glad Cafe). Built in 1906 the property has several unique features, the most impressive of which is a communal roof garden that serves the three glazed cupola stair wells. (The building’s HES listing is here) The roof works amazingly well as a shared space and as a result there is a really good community spirit throughout the building. In the summer you will find the residents up there, growing vegetables, BBQing and sleeping in hammocks. The view to all sides is stunning!

Sadly, over the last twenty/ thirty years there have been many poor quality repair jobs carried out to the building and very inferior maintenance, the worst example of this being work carried out to the roof railings, where botched repairs now necessitate their complete replacement. The residents are also having to deal with a poor quality refurb work carried out on the building in the 80s where gutters and downpipes were replaced with inferior and wrongly sized equipment and when the detailing in multiple locations was badly thought through.

To try and deal with these many issues the building came together to appoint the Conservation Architect Fiona Sinclair to carry out a full condition survey report of the building which has highlighted significant major failures and deterioration throughout that urgently requires to be addressed.

The cost of all these repair works is significant, around £1.2m. While there have been very positive discussions with the GCC and GCHT regarding funding there remains a significant amount to find.

The building has come together as a community to raise funds and awareness taking part in both Glasgow Open House & Glasgow Doors Open Day, they have held exhibitions and music events on the roof and worked with fantastic artists and musicians on projects about the building.

We are delighted to help them in their efforts to restore this fantastic Glasgow building to its former glory.

Camphill Gate Mug
Written by Mrs Sandra Horsburgh on 9th Feb 2018

I bought 2 of these mugs and ended up with 4! My first 2 went astray but many thanks to Allistair who’s customer care was excellent, he quickly sent out another 2 and yes you’ve guessed it .. the first 2 turned up! I decided to keep all 4 as it is for such a good cause and it is such a lovely building as you will see depicted on the mugs and well worth saving, I would recommend them especially if you were brought up around the Shawlands area .. Thanks Allistair!

What a wonderful way to celebrate a beautiful building and raise funds for extending its shelf life ! Very well packaged for posting and the box meant I didn't need to repackage it for a gift. Recipient was pleased with it and the explanation I gave of your fundraising.
